Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal were deeply in love. Mumtaz Mahal was the Emperor’s favorite wife, and she accompanied him everywhere, even on military campaigns. In 1631, during the birth of their 14th child, Mumtaz Mahal died due to complications. Shah Jahan was devastated by her death and vowed to create an unparalleled monument in her memory.
The construction of the Taj Mahal began in 1632, and it took more than 20,000 workers and artisans nearly 22 years to complete this magnificent marble mausoleum.
